Undoubtedly, the current super cars powered with petroleum fuels still dominate the streets around the globe, but the era of all-electric cars is expected soon, as most of the world’s renowned luxury automakers have already unveiled their electric concept cars officially. Electric cars will save on fuel prices will certainly not be the reason for the affluent owners of the world’s most expensive cars to opt for electric vehicles, but they will chose to drive electric because of environment concerns. So far, electric cars have successfully made a loyal fan base of noted celebrities and business giants like Larry Page, Roman Abramovich, Lionardo Di Caprio, Justin Bieber, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, to name a few. And, the automakers are now hoping to attract more environment-concerned enthusiasts in the coming years, when most of the electric cars will officially be made available for sale.

With an aim to create an exceptional supercar with a new propulsion concept, Croatian automotive startup Rimac Automobili has now produced an electric supercar dubbed Concept One, which blends horsepower and sleek design.

It took two years for Rimac Automobili to develop this next-generation and the world’s first electric hyper car. With a total of 1,088 horsepower under the hood and ‘All Wheel Torque Vectoring’, Concept One officially joins the exclusive club of supercars like Bugatti roadster Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse.

The car delivers exceptional driving experience with its low center of gravity, and its 92 kWh heavy battery pack offers 370-mile range, or less if an enthusiast is driving at its top of 190-mph. Further, its interiors have been designed by a team of former Pininfarina designers and a leather specialist, led by Mr. Goran Popvic. And, Rimac will only produce 88 cars in total.

Silicon Valley electric car-builder Tesla Motors has now announced that its upcoming all-electric car Model X, which is built keeping women in mind, is scheduled to hit the highways in style in year 2014. Model X is designed from the ground up to blend the best of an SUV with the benefits of a minivan, as only an electric car can. Described as an automobile above category, it’s built around the driver and six of her friends. This particular model has been developed from the full-size sedan platform of the Tesla Model S.

Model X is big on style as it is on function. It offers optional Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive, and its performance accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds, outperforming the fastest SUVs and many sports cars. And, in the driver’s seat, you’ll find a stylish combination of premium interior surfaces and panoramic glass.

Interestingly, automaker Tesla seems to be hot favorite of celebrities and tech titans, as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Larry Page, Sean Parker andLeonardo Di Caprio, to name a few, owns Tesla Electric cars.

A sustainable design without compromise; Fisker Karma is the first ever true electric luxury sports vehicle with extended range and freedom to plug in or fill up. The Karma delivers high impact performance while maintaining a low impact on the environment, and it comes with the ability to toggle between all-electric Stealth Mode of fuel assisted Sport Mode with the simple shift of the paddle. British sports car developer, Lightening Car Company has developed an electric sports car that can take style cues from the car designs of past and present. Lightening GT was the one of only two cars in the world that use lithium-titanate battery technology, which helps to get the battery charged in minutes.

Built with the advanced carbon-fiber body, the Lightening GT accelerates from 0-100 km/h in under 5 seconds, with a top speed of 200 km/h.

Short for Electric Lithium-Ion battery car, Eliica is described to be an impressive eight wheeled beast of a ride. It gets its power from eight in-wheel electric motors that produce 60 KW or roughly 80 hp each, enabling it to sprint to 60 mph in less than 4 seconds and will power on to 100 mph in just 3 more seconds. Currently, only two of its examples exist, but the Eliica team can build 200 of them, if provided with some corporate sponsorship.

Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2011, the Rolls-Royce Phantom Experimental Electric Car (aka 102 EX) was designed as an electric alternative to the gas-guzzling Phantom, which gets only 15 miles in a gallon, a figure which hardly matter to ultra-rich who sits on the back seats of this luxury sedans. Though, this electric car received positive remarks for performance, but it weighed several hundred pounds more than the already heavy Phantom. Further, it could have ended up costing twice as much as the $450,000, gasoline powered version. Powered by a 6.8 liter, V12 engine to a 290-kW lithium ion battery and two rear electric motors, the driving range of the car is roughly 200km, that too after charging it for eight hours at a special three-stage station.

Generally known for bringing innovation in their cars, combining the old-world designing charm with the advancement of modern auto engineering, British automaker Morgan Motors unveiled its 5-speed electric sports car dubbed as ‘Electric Plus E’. Design of this electric car was taken from the Plus 8 car which uses a BMW design, and combined with Zytek’s 70 KW (94 BHP) electric version which has proved its metal with the US carmakers.

Offered in bright yellow color with its drophead roof in black color, Plus E is truly a ‘clean’ vehicle, delivering output of 160 horsepower and 280 lb/ft of torque while mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Also, these figures allow this car to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in a whip of 6.0 seconds with a top speed of 115 mph.

Last year, Porsche revealed its plans of trailing three electric prototypes of its Boxter model, dubbed ‘E’, and delivered the Porsche Boxter E, which will be released in year 2013. Powered by electric motors that are attached to both the front and rear axles, making it all wheel drive, the Boxter E produces a power of 240 bhp and promises acceleration of 0 to 62 mph in just 5.3 seconds, with the top speed of 124 mph. Its battery pack is 29 kWh, providing a claimed 100-mile range.

The world’s first fully electric supercar Gullwing E-Cell has been confirmed to go on sale by the end of this year, and will be in the hands of its customers in 2013. No word on the price yet, but $1 million price is quite reasonable to expect for this car with a complex build process. With 392 kW of power and 880 Nm of torque, the E-Cell sprints from o-100 km/h in just 4.0 seconds, with 200 km of driving range in ideal condition between recharges. Only its battery packs 500 kg to the overall weight of the vehicle.

Audi All Electric E-Tron A3 Concept Car, a market-ready no emissions automobile has a single-charge battery range of about 87 miles. It is powered by a 26.5 kWh lithium-ion battery which sends its power to an electric motor, which then propels the car. As per Audi, the car will be able to get charged on a 400-volt rapid charger in about four hours, while the full charge froima regular 120-volt charger will take about nine hours. Audi’s E-Tron A3 can go from 0-60 mph in just about 11 seconds, with a top speed of 90 mph.
