Top 10 Most Fatal Attacks on Countries
Perhaps one of the darkest chapters in world history was the time when many nations have to go to war in order to pursue the evil ordeals of one, and other countries protect each other for the welfare of the masses. During World War II, many people have been witnesses of what was labeled as the worst bombings in history where atomic bombs have been used in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, to finally end the war. With the celebration of Hiroshima Day on August 8, let us refresh our memories on the top 10 most fatal bomb attacks in the world, and learn the harsh lessons of the causes and fruits of war.
10. Bombing of Guernica
During the Spanish Civil War, the town of Guernica in Basque, Spain has been one of the targets by both the German Luftwaffe and the Italian Fascist Aviazione Legionaria, although the town was considered to be defenseless, brimming with civilians. Over 1,654 people have been killed during the attack, according to the count of the Basque Government. However, Russians who have archived the event contests that the death toll only reaches to about 800.
9. 9/11 Incident
On September 11, 2001, the world was shocked when it has seen one of the worst, most unexpected events to happen in human history. Two suicide bombers from the terrorist group Al Qaeda pummeled two separate aircrafts on the two towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, while it was being aired in the background by most financial news channels, as it was considered one of the greatest centers of trade and marketing, famous all over the world. Never did most newscasters know that something beyond ordinary would happen that day. Almost 3,000 people or 2,976 to be exact, have been killed both from the explosions and the collapse of the buildings, making it one of the best staged terrorist attacks gaining the most casualties during the modern time.
8. Bombing of SS Cap Arcona
Cap Arcona has been used as one of the accessories of the Nazis in transporting soldiers, or the Allied Forces thought it was supposed to be the case. However, there were no reports that what were carried inside are prisoners from concentration camps. The ship was sunk in 1945 with over 5,000 people included. This was reported to be the worst maritime loss of life in history. The said cruise ship was one of the most luxurious during its day, which was a perfect coy for the German troops to use it to whatever they please.
7. Bombing of Le Havre
Le Havre was originally one of the towns owned by a member of the Allied Forces – The French. However, when it was overrun by German Troops, there was no choice but to have the city wiped out in order to make the rest of the country safe from further political damage. Over 5,000 deaths have been recorded during the Battle of Burgundy, which already includes the number of innocents, mothers, families, and even little children; usually, a very disheartening part of the war.
6. Bombing of Pforzheim
At the retribution of the Allied Forces against the Nazis during World War II, many cities and towns have been involved in order to wipe the opposition and start international relationships anew. The town of Pforzheim was among the casualties, where over 17,600 people have been killed within just one night on February 23, 1945, making it a complete wipeout at such as fast pacing rate.
5. Dresden Bombing
Bombing Dresden, one of the cities responsible for supporting transportation and communication efforts of the Germans during World War II, was one of the strategies of the Allied Forces in order to impale the German power from resisting defeat. With Hiroshima and Nagasaki already out of the way, one major target of the Americans during World War II was nothing than the capital of the Land of the Rising Sun, Tokyo.
